    All workshops cost $5. The first time you attend a workshop, you’ll be asked to join the MNC as an ordinary member. That costs $5.50 and you don’t pay for that first workshop. Every other workshop after that costs $5.00 but membership is renewed annually.

    With the cost of living continuing to skyrocket, this workshop will give you information about how to cut back and simplify. The discussions will centre around reducing your spending while still living well.

    Cost $5. 10am – 12 noon, morning tea provided
    Information and suggestions about ways to reduce your spending at home, how to shop wisely for groceries, the value of monitoring your electricity and water, budgeting, getting rid of commercial supermarket cleaners and making your own.

    Information and notes about setting up and maintaining a worm farm and compost system. A chance to talk about about the benefits of these systems in your garden and to ask questions.

    Organic Gardening - 27 March

    Information about setting up and maintaining a productive vegetable garden. We’ll also be discussing the importance of open pollinated seeds, home made fertilisers, continuous planting and successful harvesting.

    Frugal Parent - 17 April

    A two hour discussion for new parents about frugal options for baby. Information of cloth nappies and how to make them at home as well as recipes for making laundry liquid for sensitive skin and encouragement to make baby food. Notes and recipes given out to take home

    Keeping chooks in the backyard - 24 April
    Cost $5. 10am – 12 noon, morning tea provided
    This workshop deals with keeping chickens in the backyard for the production of eggs, the creation of high nitrogen fertiliser and insect control. Old pure breeds discussed as well as hybrids. Information about feeding, pecking order, introducing new chickens into the flock and council regulations.

    Green Cleaning & making laundry liquid - 1 May
    Cost $5. 10am – 12 noon, morning tea provided
    This workshop discusses the value of making your own cleaning products with easy and cheap ingredients. There will be a demonstration of how to make laundry liquid and how to use that in general cleaning.

    Cooking from scratch - 8 May
    Cost $5. 10am – 12 noon, morning tea provided
    A practical hand-on demonstration of how to make good wholesome meals from scratch – no sachets of flavourings, no cans of soup, just fresh vegetables and other natural ingredients. At this workshop we will be cooking beef stew with herb dumplings. Stay for lunch and share the stew we made.

    Have you always wanted to make your own bread. Well, this is the workshop for you. A hands-on demonstration of making dough, kneading and baking a good loaf of bread.

    Preserving jam and relish - 29 May
    Cost $5. 10am – 12 noon, morning tea provided
    Hands on demonstration making tomato relish or jam using seasonal fruit, then how to preserve it using the water bath method. Each person attending should bring along a 250 ml sealable jar to take home either the relish or jam made on the day.

    Soap making - 5 June
    Cost $5. 10am – 12 noon, morning tea provided
    Cold process soap making from scratch. Hands on demonstration and plenty of time to ask questions. If you come back to the Centre later in the week, you can take home some of the soap you made.
